Models and who pays

Use an API key

Pay for June's turns with your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Requesty, Vercel AI Gateway or any compatible endpoint.

Add an API key as a funding source, pick it, and it pays for every turn in that space: your personal space, or an organization you are an admin of.

Add a key

Open the Funding section, on your Settings page for your own space or on the organization's page for an organization.
Choose Add a key and pick the provider.
Paste the API key and give it a label of up to 80 characters. Custom needs a label; for the other providers it is optional, and the key is named after the provider.
June stores the key encrypted, then checks it by listing the models it can reach. Only its last four characters are shown again.
Pick the key in the list to make it the source that pays. Adding a key does not switch it on.

Providers

Pick OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Requesty or Vercel AI Gateway and paste that provider's key. For any other endpoint, pick Custom and enter its base URL (a public https address), whether it speaks the OpenAI-compatible chat completions API or the Anthropic Messages API, a label and the key.

You do not type model names: June reads them from the endpoint when it checks the key.

Use it

While the key pays, the model picker shows one group, named after the key's label, with the models the endpoint listed. Nothing else is offered in that space until you pick No funding source.

If the check fails, the key's row says why and offers Verify again; a key that failed cannot pay. If a working key later stops paying, turns in that space stop rather than move to another source (see Pay for an organization).

Remove a key

Choose Remove on the key's row. If it was the source that paid, new chats run on your own plans or June Models again, and a chat the key paid for stops: start a new chat.

What June does not do

  • It does not use the key outside the space you added it in.
